Good Hair Day

Who else have trouble with styling their frizzy hair, apart from me?

Although I often receive complements on how my hair look when I am out and about, what most people do not realise is how difficult it is to actually style it. My hair is naturally frizzy, has thick strands with very coarse texture. It is, by far, the most difficult task of my morning daily routine.

Hair condition when naturally dried

Over the years, I tested out various haircare products, but most do not really work on my hair. Combined with sensitive scalp that is prone to eczema – my ongoing health concern – natural oils such as argan oil, coconut oil, olive oil; or shampoo and conditioner made from natural ingredients tend to be best to nourish my hair and scalp.

It is essential for people with sensitive scalp to use haircare products that are SLS/SLES free and dermatologically tested. SLS or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is an anionic detergent and surfactant typically found in many personal care products such as soaps, shampoos, toothpaste etc. Although it is a very effective and inexpensive foaming agent, it has been shown to have a “degenerative effect on the cell membranes because of its protein denaturing properties” according to The Journal of the American College of Toxicology. This means that it causes corrosion of fats and proteins that make up our skin and muscle, which in turn causes skin irritation and damage to hair cuticles.  So, I tried to be very careful and read the ingredients of personal care products properly before using them.

Recently, I was introduced to Percy & Reed range of SLS/SLES free shampoos and conditioners called “Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Wash Shampoo” and “Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Care Conditioner”. I decided to give them a try, and have been using them for over 4 weeks now.

Both the shampoo and conditioner felt very gentle on both my hair and scalp, not to mention they smell divine… very fresh and uplifting. What I like the most about these two Percy & Reed products, though, were how my hair became softer and smoother after I have been using them regularly over these past few weeks. I can sit here trying to describe the difference, but I think pictures are worth a thousand words, so I decided to make this little video to show you the difference instead!

It is our first video after all, so please don’t forget to let me know what you think! ^-^

What is the difference between SLS and SLES? I never knew about this chemical. Will be keeping an eye out for this from now on.
