“You’re entirely BONKERS. But I’ll tell you a SECRET. All the best people are.” – Alice In Wonderland
A world of wonder and colourful characters await at any Mad Hatter themed party and the afternoon tea I attended with my girlfriends was no different.
We dressed up for the occasion and couldn’t wait for the quirky, fun-filled afternoon we knew we would enjoy.
The afternoon tea, available daily at the Sanderson Hotel in London, offered delicious food and a delightful drinks menu with tea blends named after our favourite Alice in Wonderland characters and served via a playing card with the characters image.
Mine was the Mad Hatter tea – a green tea, infused with passion fruit, guava and mango.
Other teas on offer included the Queen of Hearts – red rose congu infused with red rose petals and a hint of vanilla and chocolate. The White Rabbit –China white silver needles infused with white grapefruit, vanilla and almond white chrysanthemums and Alice – China black tea infused with hints of blackcurrant, vanilla, caramel, citrus, bergamot, blue cornflowers and blue mallow flowers.
Food-wise, I particularly loved the Mad Hatter’s Lost Carrot and Fennel Meringue but there were so many other beautiful bites to sample. The afternoon beings with savoury foods such as smoked salmon quails egg with caviar and cream cheese and an incredible King of Hearts parmesan croque-monsieur stack.
We also loved Tweedle Dee’s lemon curd financier and a mocha chessboard gateau. In a couple of cute little themed twists, the menu was hidden in the old Alice and Wonderland book and sugar cubes are served in a pretty ballerina music box.
Unfortunately the service was rather disappointing, our waitress wasn’t familiar enough with the menu and I felt more attention to detail was required.
In saying that, the overall experience was lovely.
This was the third time I have spent the afternoon at Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea Party at the Sanderson Hotel, and it is still my favourite place in London for afternoon tea.
I highly recommend getting dressed up with your girlfriends and spending a whimsical afternoon amongst the crazy characters that make up Alice’s wonderland.
