LFW AW17 Part 6: Han Wen – Rebel

“Were these women always presenting themselves in a tough and burley demeanor?  Did they dress themselves in a way to look manlier because they wanted to seem more powerful and to be taken seriously?” – Han Wen

Let’s have a little look at the fresh bloods, the young and upcoming new designers this London Fashion Week too.  The most rebellious collection presentation so far is definitely at Han Wen.  This is the second time I have been invited to his show now, and I must say that I continue to be thoroughly impressed with his concept, design and craftsmanship.

For this collection, Han Wen finds inspirations from female gangsters from the classic novel, A Clockwork Orange, by Anthony Burgess.  He was intrigued by the psychological aspects of these notorious women gangsters… Were they always presenting themselves in a tough and burley manner?  Did they always dress in a manlier way to seem more powerful?  Do they feel that how they dress help them being taken more seriously by men?  There were interesting questions that also applies to everyday women.  After all, how we dress often reflects how we see ourselves.

True to his signature style, Han Wen focuses on creating innovative, dramatic, augmented silhouettes, and intriguing combinations of textiles and bright primary colours to bring his narrative to life.

Here are some photographs and videos from the collection of my favourite pieces…
