Masculine Florals with Uniqlo x Liberty

Wearing florals during Spring and Summer may not be particularly ground breaking, but combining a floral piece to an everyday office outfit stylishly without looking too feminine or trying too hard can be quite a challenge.  Many years ago, when I was still working in an architectural design practice, there used to be a male colleague who always wore floral Liberty shirts or floral Paul Smith shirt to work everyday.  It was his signature style, and I had always admired how he managed to put his outfit together so stylishly.  He looked effortlessly cool and very masculine even though sometimes, these floral shirts were bright red or yellow!!  They were definitely very hard to pull off pieces, that was for sure.  Ever since then, I had always wanted to try wearing one of these Liberty floral prints something…  Just to see if I could pull it off too.

So, when I first heard about the Uniqlo x Liberty collaboration, I was jumping with joy.  Finally, here was affordable Liberty floral print shirts that I can experiment with, without breaking my tiny little piggy bank.  So for this outfit post, I chose a blue floral print linen shirt from the collection.  It is perfect for a hot summer day because linen is highly breathable and cooling to wear.  I combined it with my favourite pair of skinny denim jeans from 7 For All Mankind and my Joseph cotton sweater in brown.  The aim was to brighten up a basic everyday outfit with these colourful floral detail.  So here are the results…  What do you think?  Have I succeeded?
