The First Step On A Blank Canvas
“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity, and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.” – Edith Lovejoy Pierce
Happy New Year, everybody! I hope you all had a wonderful New Year celebration with friends, family and loved ones.
My first morning of 2016 is all about contemplation and the usual drafting of the all important New Year Resolutions… Overall, I think that I have managed to lay down a pretty good foundation for the direction my life is heading from 2015. For once, I am not going to change much, but rather I will be improving upon things that I have already started from last year. I will just keep going and be more consistent with habits and routines which I would like to keep because sometimes, I ended up slacking every now and then in 2015. I am feeling much more assured and more positive about myself today than this time last year. I remembered waking up on New Year day last year feeling rather scared and sad. This year I feel fresh and energetic because I feel that I finally am on the right path. I become more settled and ready to expand, so with this mindset, I am ready to walk forward with an open mind… to continue my journey of new adventures, discover new people, places… and face new challenges… I know now that if I keep myself focused on where I am going, I will get there no matter what unexpected surprises life throws my way.
While looking at these photos during my walk along River Dee in Chester, they remind me to always be positive and inquisitive. As Edith Lovejoy Pierce has rightly said, a new year is like a new book, full of new opportunities; it is up to us to take the first step and be sure that whatever we create from now on is a positive experience that will further enrich our lives, helps us grow and be memorable in the years to come. After all, a journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step… and that first single step starts now!
