Shoryu Ramen: The best ramen and hirata bun in town
After a rather confused Japanese food night at few weeks ago, I finally had to satisfy my cravings for the real hirata buns and tonkotsu ramen noodles soup by visiting Shoryu Ramen in Soho.
For me, this place served one of the best tonkotsu ramen, hakata tetsunabe gyoza and hirata buns in London, not to mention at very reasonable price. I would say Shoryu Ramen and Tonkatsu were my go-to places to satisfy my cravings for authentic ramen.
Here they are in pictures because words could not possibly justify how delicious these dishes really are…
My first favourite dish at Shoryu Ramen is “Hakata Tetsunabe Gyoza”… Served in a little cast iron pan with a tangy dipping sauce and fresh wasabi is this crispy parcel of well seasoned tender minced pork… I ordered this dish every time I came here because no other Japanese restaurants offered it on the menu….

My second favourite is the Hirata Buns… This is the authentic Japanese version as oppose to the one I tried at the BAFTA EAT FILM event… The difference? Well, the bun here is moist, soft and slightly chewy in texture… tender pork loin stuffing and light Japanese mayonaise sauce… How Hirata Buns should be…

… and here it is… my all time favourite Ramen Dish.. The Kotteri Hakata Tonkotsu which is the Tonkatsu ramen with a much thicker and creamier broth than the usual signature Shoryu Tonkatsu Ramen or any offered by other competitors… For me, this is how a Tonkatsu ramen should be.. rich, heartwarming and dare I say… fattening pork broth with creamy runny soft-boiled egg, tender slices of bamboo shoots and wafer thin slices of really fatty pork loins…
